Newbery Challenge

Join our celebration of 100 Years of the Newbery Medal, which honors distinguished children’s literature, by participating in our year-long Newbery Reading Challenge!

  • Read, share your thoughts about the books you choose & have a chance to win monthly prizes.
  • Pick up a bookmark each month at the library & return it to be entered into a monthly drawing OR participate online at
  • Complete the whole year by reading 11 books, completing 11 reviews and 1 creative project & you’ll be eligible to win a grand prize in December.
  • Join us for a month or any combination of months, you don’t have to complete the entire year to participate!

Each month features a guest speaker/presenter/program on varied topics. A free meal is provided after the program courtesy of Ellsworth Senior Center and Friends of the Ellsworth Public Library. Please see the library’s calendar of events for each month’s program.

Art Shows

Artwork from the Ellsworth School District is displayed twice a year. High School Art Department each November and the K-12 Art Department each April in celebration of Youth Art Month. Each show is a month in length and displays 2-D and 3-D student artwork.
